Done properly, WFM allows you to reduce costs and increase efficiency:

Invest

The most important aspect of ensuring good workforce management is using the right tools. It’s increasingly standard practice across a range of industries and sectors to use dedicated software to manage employees, and companies like Indeed Flex offer packages with a range of useful features. WFM software can help managers fulfil responsibilities such as:

  • Data collection
  • Real-time adjustments of open tasks and budgets
  • Longer-term forecasting
  • Assigning workers to key tasks

Using specialist software to manage your workforce allows you to automate tedious tasks, view worker availability and in progress tasks easily and communicate with relevant individuals and teams quickly and simply.

Set Clear Goals

A key element of human resource management is knowing what you want to achieve.

This is especially crucial when WFM software offers such a wide range of data options. With so much information at your fingertips, it can be tempting to try to interpret all of it. This is a mistake, as you can quickly find yourself swamped with irrelevant information.

Instead, you should work backwards. What does your business want to achieve in the long term? What is its mission? From this mission, you can derive longer- medium-term goals, as well as more immediate objectives.

Once you’ve set your goals, you can then look for the workforce management data that will best help you achieve them.

Analyse Results

Setting goals, making schedules and assigning tasks are not the only elements of workforce management. If you want to succeed and grow over the longer term, you also need to make sure that you’re frequently assessing your performance – and, if necessary, assigning your approach.

Things to look out for include:

  • Late completion
  • Employees reporting dissatisfaction with a task frequently assigned to them
  • Too high resource or operational costs

With a good WFM system, you’ll be able to identify any issues and start looking for solutions. Examples of workforce management solutions include:

  • Using a new app or programme to complete tasks
  • Changing outdated equipment or practices
  • Giving and receiving usable feedback
  • Adjusting task distribution and scheduling among employees

Once you’ve done this, you can make new projections and forecasts. It’s important to remember, though, that this is an iterative process. Don’t expect to be able to solve all your problems once and for all. Instead, continuously analyse and adjust, so you can keep growing and improving.

Workforce management (WFM) is one of the most important keys to business success. To make sure you’re not falling behind and avoid costly mistakes, get the right software and use it to consistently analyse your performance to ensure you’re staying on track to hit your key goals.
